Years of Experience or What you do in those years !!

“I do not think, sir, you have any right to command me, merely because you are older than I, or because you have seen more of the world than I have; your claim to superiority depends on the use you have made of your time and experience.”
― Charlotte BrontëJane Eyre

I am sure you would hear these statements quite too often from the millenniums; who are today a large part of our workforce. However I was pleasantly surprised to know that these words of wisdom were articulated some 168 years ago!!!

Jane Eyre (originally published as Jane Eyre: An Autobiography) is a novel by English writer Charlotte Brontë. It was published on 16 October 1847, under the pen name “Currer Bell.”

What is amazing to think of is that the quote above is lot more relevant today. Fundamentally as organisations we should be thinking this deeper when looking for talent. Is the age old question still valid – “How many years of experience do you have?” Isn’t it time that we ask a more relevant one – “What have been the experiences in your years of work?”

Just Thinking…
